Welcome to Tech Blog @ APCSD - 10-07-2009

Technology in the classrooms at AP is booming. This became very apparent when the Social Studies department at the high school moved out of their technology-rich classrooms last week due to the mold problem. The teachers scrambled to relocate to rooms with projectors, elmos, and computers. The teachers need this equipment so that they could continue to teach using internet resources and interactive tools.

As the district prepares for the Oct 27th conference day “Technology to Facilitate 21st Century Learning” we want to hear from you. What type of technology are you using in your classroom and how do students respond to this? What are you doing to engage your students using the technology we have? Are your students keeping up with you or are you keeping up with your students?

Please post your thoughts to this blog. Need help with technology integration? Tell us about it. Chances are someone reading this blog can offer advice. Want to share a tech experience with your colleagues, post it here.
Blogging is a great way to open up conversations so let’s get going.

I hope you all enjoy this blog. I am looking forward to participating and reading your posts.

Lynn

Anyone that is presenting on the 27th and would like to record their presentation for their own records or to post on our website, let me know. I will do my best to get a camera set up in your room.
All presenters in the auditorium will be recorded anyway.
Thanks,
Pete

It was great to see all the work that so many are doing to utilize technology with their classes. I have been using technology for a long time. I am currently utilizing 4 blogs in my classes. Two for keeping people up on the day to day goings on:
http://aphsbio.blogspot.com/
http://aphschem.blogspot.com/
These blogs include all the written materials that I hand to students.

And two for projects that the students must complete:
http://aphsbiop.blogspot.com/
http://aphschemp.blogspot.com/

I can’t wait to incorporate some of the materials that I learned about in the Castlelearning.com breakout session into my class.

Thanks for all the hard work that so many do, often without any obvious notice, to keep our technology interesting and working.

Here are the links for the keynote presentation - the slides and the delicious page that includes sites we looked at - and some we didn't:

The conference day was outstanding. Thank you to all of the people who worked so hard to make yesterday so good. I am proud of the work we are doing in AP and it is no wonder that we were selected as #6 nationally for our use of technology! I am honored and proud to serve as superintendent for such a committed staff who serve our kids so well.

I agree that the conference went great! :) Even as a "techy person" I was a little overwhelmed... But I plan on using just 2 of the new things I saw yesterday in my classes in the future.

When I was a young child I remember my Grandpa (a lover of gadgets) buying a calculator. The high tech thing cost $62.00 - wow! $62.00 was a bunch of cheddar back in the day. Now we can buy a calculator for $1.00 or find one free in fundraising letters from our former college. So, I was thinking...I would really love a Smart Board for every Art Room - the possibilities are endless and would enhance learning. When will they become more affordable? Do we have grants for items such as these? I would be willing to donate $62.00 to the cause.
BTW Mr. DeWitt you look fab on the Pod Cast.

I thought the presentation was great! It was nice to see demonstrations of how some other teachers are incorporating technology into their teaching. It has inspired me to try some new things in the classroom. Thanks for an informative afternoon. All the presenters did a great job!

I enjoyed the conference and learned a few things that I can't wait to try out (wordle and wordnik). The presenters were fantastic and the speaker (Linda) had some great ideas and info.! I do though; however, wish we had some choice to our specific sessions. The one I was assigned was WAY over my head and I have already signed up for an in-service about it. Something different would have been much more beneficial for me.

It was great to have a variety of exposure at out fingertips. Being introduced to the latest and exciting modes of technology, while getting a visual demonstration was very effective and helps to pave the way for people to branch out and try new things. It was excellent!

I thought it was such a great day. I learned so much about Castle Learning...I love that we have that at our fingertips. I learned so much from Linda Braun...I have started to talk about some of those options with my kids and they are getting excited. I heard about the librarians' Web lesson and can't wait to do United Streaming in my class. Ed...I would love to peek into your bio blogs! Anyone intersted in my English blogs...feel free to contact me and I can add you.

A huge thank you goes out to the organizers and presenters for a job well done. The presentations are creating quite a buzz here in the middle school. Literacy teachers are planning to use several of the featured sites in the near future.
I, also, am curious about grants for smart boards for the humanities and arts.

@ Ed and Veronica - I too was quite impressed with the Castle Learning presentation. regentsprep.org is a valuable resource, but it seems Castle gives us the ability to actually design instruction around the resources it offers.

I was impressed enough with the day to go home and try out every new thing I saw/heard about. I was on the laptop til' the wee hours! Many new things that can be easily incorporated into lessons, or used to develop new curriculum for a new century!
